Respiro Films is the filmmaking and creative practice of director Harjinder Grewal.
Growing up between Indian and British cultures in the UK fostered an early curiosity about identity, belonging and the spaces in between. Amidst a reoccurring state of daydreaming, this curiosity found its expression through filmmaking.
After graduating in Film & Television, I pursued further director training at the London Film School and the National Film and Television School.
My work spans commissioned filmmaking and independent moving-image practice, with commissions and support from Universal Music Group, BBC, Channel 4, EON Productions, PIAS, Arts Council England, Spanish Television and various independent labels, exhibiting at the National Geographic Society and Whitechapel Gallery in London, Aicon Gallery in New York, Dubai's Art Park and Pakistan's National Art Gallery. I was also nominated for the Satyajit Ray Short Film Award.
" a true multi-hyphenate in filmmaking, he knows his visual voice and style and how to engage an audience"
